I am going to ramble on about the List Control event now. Like the event itself, I don’t suppose this post will have any cohesive nature, but just be a random spewing of thoughts, feedback, and perhaps a nugget of content … maybe. My hope, is like the event, this post will be loved.
Event? Really. Let me start with the good. I have never laughed so hard, so consistently, out loud, at an internet marketing event in my entire life. Nor do I ever expect that it will happen again. Very fun event for the advanced and rich, and mind boggling and wasteful to the beginners.
But, I loved it … Keep reading for more on that. Long Live Frank and Trey!
In fact, most beginner’s I ran across were completely lost. The event felt more like a group of old friends getting together to swap stories, and make each other laugh, than an internet marketing event with their typical “content”. The skill level of most was quite high, and over 50 percent of the room actually had a product, and was actively selling it. That’s a good amount for an event like this. Still, had to feel sorry for those beginner’s or intermediate’s among the crowd, whom might have been hoping for a step by step rehash or addition to the actual list control course. There was none of that.
In fact, I don’t believe the actual course was barely mentioned at all during the entire first day, and only briefly on the second. Come to think of it, List Control itself, the actual course, wasn’t brought up. Wow, this is just dawning on me now. The event had no list building aspect to it … nor any training or anything like that with regards to List Building. There was Copy Control, JV Control (didn’t get to that one, but will be given to us later), and … one other control, but I did not find these presentations to be that focused.
For my part though, I loved it. I was in San Diego all week, got an enormous amount of actual work done, met a few fantastic people, spent over 4k (yes, that’s four thousand), dollars on drinks in the last day alone (at one point, buying fifty or so aspiring internet marketers, and everyone lucky enough to be around me, round after round of shots), and experienced the full on Hard Rock Hotel lifestyle (which is ludicrous to say the least), of a hard living rock star.
While I am first to admit, the hard partying lifestyle of the Hard Rock hotel can be fun, after a few days, the loud music, and drunk people everywhere, were more of a hassle than anything else. Although, admittedly, the bikini clad “enhanced” models walking the hotel, and attending the hotel’s dance events, never really managed to get old. The fact the hotel wanted to charge me, first $200, and then 5k dollars, to attend a day party at the hotel pool, was not appreciated. $200 for a day party at the pool (with a famous house DJ), as a hotel guest in their largest suite, kinda ticked me off, and then asking for 5k (and yes, 10k) for a table at the event … left me feeling like I was on another planet.
That being said, other than that incredibly stupid experience, the hotel staff there were fantastic. Really on top of things.
I have to briefly state, those rooms are so poorly designed. Bathroom and shower in the middle of the room? Really? Doors that don’t offer privacy? Really? A suite that only has a curtain separate various rooms? Come on! I got, as per usual, the nicest room available, and was sorely disappointed by it. Yes, the sheets and amenities were nice, but hated the room layout.
Back to the event itself, all questions were answered, like a final episode of Lost, we found out why were given those books prior to the seminar. Burchard and the Wolf of Wall street were both at the conference (which was a really fun surprise), and both gave fairly good content and yes, pitches, during the event - both were really “storytelling” hours, by masterful storytellers. As a beginner, I would have been transfixed, as a grizzled veteran internet marketer, I was amused and even entertained.
We also got the final word on Frank’s retirement, as he goes on to work full time with the wolf of wall street. I can relate … how do you from a few million, and add a zero? The wolf of Wall Street is the guy to answer that question, no doubt. So that’s what Frank is going to do, and likely, we’ll get a string of affiliate offers throughout the course of the next year, regardless of that decision.
Frank and Trey are an amazing team, and literally should be hosting Saturday Night Live (really). The event, while fun, was not one I’ll be returning to - which is fortunate, since this was likely the last one for a while.
That being said, the greatest lesson here, by far, is the fact that these two have such raving fans, and so many ardent supporters (me, perhaps, among them), that it’s unbelievable what they can do, and how they can do it. Really, how do they do it?! Regardless of content at the event, organization, or even the actual course itself, these two are incredible individuals. They are unique, incredibly smart, and very, very fun to be around.
And finally, the overall course, with the event included; was it worthwhile?
More on that soon - but what do you think?
